Summary
This delightful design was originally created by a young girl named Melicent Turner in the year 1808. Nothing is known of the child, however the sampler is believed to be American. The fabric she stitched with is loosely woven and very coarse indicating it is quite likely American.
This new version of "The Melicent Turner Sampler" has been reproduced by Diane Williams for Little House Needleworks. The model is stitched on Weeks Dye Works 30ct Cocoa Linen using Crescent Colours Belle Soie Silk floss (Baguette, Expresso, Poison Apple, Teddy Bear and Weathered Vine). The stitch count is 132w x 144h.
Two alternate thread choices are: Crescent Colours Cotton (Khaki Mocha, Cocoa Bean, Sweetest Heart, Roasted Chestnut and Weeping Willow) or DMC floss (712, 3781, 3721, 420, 869, 3829, 3051 and 3052).
